Oily or combination, normal or dry – no matter your skin type, managing a busy lifestyle and an extensive skincare routine is challenging. They take a toll when stress, inadequate nutrition, and other irritants pop up at the cost of peaceful sleep. This leads to common skin problems like dullness, acne, pimples, and blackheads. They come to tell us that we need to take care of ourselves before it is too late.


How to care for yourself if you have oily skin?

One of the most challenging skin types to deal with, oily skin can bring unexpected guests over at any time on your face. It can make you a complete hygiene freak unlike any other skin type. Oily skin results from your sebaceous glands producing much more sebum than your skin requires. It often leads to a greasy, shiny appearance on the facial skin and leads to clogged pores and acne.



Acne & Pimples

Acne appears on your skin when your hair follicles are clogged with dead skin cells and oil. This leads to blackheads, whiteheads, and pimples. It affects people of all age groups but is far too common among teenagers. There are several reasons why you might have them. (These are quite different from face skin problems faced by people with dry skin problem, though some of these issues may be similar).


Some of the issues faced by people with oily and acne-prone skin are:

  1. Hormonal changes: If you are going through a hormonal upsurge, it may also cause acne and pimples. Changes like puberty or pregnancy can make your skin react differently to these changes and cause these red bumps.
  1. Smoking: If you cannot go without smoking, then acne is something you might have to contend with. Smoking affects your skin in more ways than you know. It makes your skin cells hollow and devoid of moisture. It absorbs the natural oils and thus, causes your skin to produce more. 
  1. Skincare products with excessive oil: You may be doing everything right – washing your face, and moisturizing it regularly, but it could still amount to zero. Checking the oil content in your skincare products is important, especially if you have sensitive skin. Some skin problems like acne and pimples usually come without warning.
  1. Stress and lack of sleep: Working professional, homemaker, or student – your pressures could be anything. Excessive stress can lead to a lack of sleep and acne and pimples. It also affects our nervous system and slows down its functioning.
  1. Genetics: Your genetics can trick you even when there is little reason to do that. If your maternal or paternal family has an acne history, you might have it too.
